The Cabinotch Moment

Hello, I am Phillip Crabtree, and I am the creator of Cabinotch.

Like most of you, my father started our family cabinet business many decades ago and shared with me his love and passion for woodworking. Growing up in the shop, I took pride in what my father had built. Our custom cabinet shop earned the reputation of being the best in our hometown and surrounding counties because we used the highest quality materials and paid close attention to every detail of the project. But as we grew and I as became more and more involved in the business, I quickly realized I did not own my business; it owned me. 60–70-hour work weeks became the norm, leaving me exhausted, both mentally and physically, with zero margin in my personal life.

One of the most challenging things about running a larger cabinet shop was the daily burdens of unreliable employees. Each day, I grew more and more frustrated with their lack of responsibility and work ethic which caused me to bear a bigger burden, put my head down, and grind even harder and longer to pick up the slack to keep my business afloat. It was at this point, my young wife told me something had to change. She essentially had become a single parent to our newborn daughter while I was maintaining our cabinet shop. I prayed for a way out - for a way to save my marriage, my business, and our future.

One morning in 2004, I was in the shower and the Cabinotch box system was born in my mind. My father believed in me and this idea so much, he spent his life savings and borrowed more money than he ever had in his entire life to buy our first CNC. We applied for our patents and began transforming our shop from a place of heavy, long days that generated little profit, to a business that was fun, rewarding, and extremely profitable. Simply put, Cabinotch transformed our shop completely. We went from 35 aggravating employees to 12 solid team members while doubling our sales in the first three years. Outsourcing our cabinet boxes and drawer boxes to Cabinotch allowed me to focus on the important things in my business – sales, design, and even gave me time to be still, to plan and work out a vision our future. This would have never been possible before Cabinotch. I was free!

Not only has Cabinotch changed my life and my custom cabinet business, but it has done the same for hundreds of my peers, as well. Hear me when I say this – I know what you are feeling. I am not trying to sell you cabinet parts. I am trying to give you a new way to live your life and run your business. From my experience, outsourcing the cabinet box itself is the most liberating, life-giving, business building decision I’ve ever made.

Here at Cabinotch, we call it the “Cabinotch Moment”, and this is when my fellow cabinetmakers see the unbelievable benefits of outsourcing to Cabinotch. My “Cabinotch Moment” happened that morning in 2004 when I felt consumed by my work life. If you find yourself where I was - tired, busy, overwhelmed and yearning for some kind of margin in your life, please give us a call and we can show you how to have your very own “Cabinotch Moment.” Thank you for your time and I hope to hear your story soon.
